"One of the pans. Chopped Hemp or Flax, water and chemicals (caustic was one I think?) were placed into the pan it was sealed put under steam and then rotated for several hours. Once cooled the pan would be opened (a two mile radius would be stunk out) and the contents dropped onto the shaker. From there the material would be delivered to the Potchers."
