Wesley Street Mill (Bamber Bridge Spinning Mill)
Dates Visited: July and August 2013
Bamber Bridge Spinning Company, also known as New Mill or Wesley St. Mill, was opened in 1907. By any standards, this was a big mill, and dominated the flat local landscape. It was also one of the largest in the Preston area with 135,000 spindles. The mill’s closure was announced in 1959, and then survived in use in multiple occupancy, but deteriorating condition, until the early 2000's. Demolition occurred during the summer of 2013, with the tower surviving until February 2015.
Despite living only a few miles away, I never felt compelled to explore this mill, primarily because the reports I'd seen online didn't really inspire me. I did however, take the opportunity for several visits to document its rather slow demolition.
