Industrial Landscape and Urban Exploration Portfolio
Location: Robert Fletchers Paper Mill, Oldham
Date: December 2007

Ponds and lakes tend to be calmest at either end of the day. We’d spent a good deal of the day exploring the Paper Mill, and before we made our way back through the hole in the fence, I saw this reflection on the pond and couldn’t resist a quick photo. The mill had been unused for several years but looked ready to resume work at a moment’s notice. For some reason, no one had locked the doors so despite the presence of a security guard in the gatehouse (who seemed happy to stay there) we had an uninterrupted look round. Out of courtesy and curiosity, after leaving we went to the main gate managed to attract his attention and asked him if we could go in for a look round. In very poor English, he said that wasn’t possible – just goes to prove in urbex you often need to explore first and ask questions later.
