At one time, over 2000 people worked here, and the lino they produced made (Lord) James Williamson a very rich man. His legacy to the city is Williamson Park and the Ashton Memorial which overlooks the city and the thousands of motorists that pass by on the M6 every day.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, the vast Lune Mills complex lies half demolished awaiting redevelopment.
